Fire With Conviction
Often when players are looking to find the green with a mid or short iron they try and guide their ball towards the target. But this can lead to a tentative swing that lacks conviction. Concentrate on completing your backswing by making a full shoulder turn. From here you will be able to make an authoritative swing and create a powerful, accurate strike as you accelerate through the ball.
When hitting mid or long irons establishing a sound set-up position is crucial. Stand behind the ball and carefully pick your target - don't aim automatically at the pin but pick a safe spot on the green that will leave you with a straight-forward putt. Next, place your club behind the ball, taking care to ensure that the face is pointing directly at the target.
Finally, address the ball, setting your feet, hips and shoulders perfectly square to your ball-to-target line.
